End of the Year Behavior Management

Today I thought it would be fun to link up for "Tried it Tuesday" with Fourth Grade Flipper.

At this time of the year I am constantly encouraging students to make positive behavior decisions. The year is winding down, summer is drawing nearer, and everyone's getting antsy. All year long I have used a behavior clip chart. By the end of the year, I have noticed that students need a new form of management to keep them motivated. After seeing Class Dojo all over the internet, I decided to give it a try and both myself and my students LOVE it.

If you haven't heard of Class Dojo, you create an account and input all of your students' names. You then add in positive and negative behaviors you would like to monitor in my classroom. In order to get my students on board, I wanted my students to be involved in the behaviors we picked. We had a class discussion and then added the necessary behaviors. After behaviors have been added, you can begin using the program. It is super simple and students can can and lose points based on behaviors they are showing. In order to add/subtract points, you simply click on the student and select the behavior they are doing (positive and negative). You can also select multiple students at one time to award and remove points.

Why do I love this program?

This program can be used on the computer (and shown on the board via the elmo) or on an ipad/iphone via the Class Dojo App. This means I can carry the program with me to lunch, in the hallway, and I can also use it in my room. Another thing I LOVE is to project it onto my board while students are at centers or reading silently while I work with small groups. Using my Qomo, I can add/subtract points for behaviors I see around the room. Students can peak up at the board and see their points increase or decrease based on certain behaviors. If they notice a point missing, it is a good reminder to get back on task so they can hopefully earn it back. 

There are SO many more great features on Class Dojo that I haven't even tried to use yet. You can email parents, pull up graphs, and do all sorts of other great things. If you haven't checked out this great website... I suggest you check it out soon! You will be glad you did!
